Refugee Soccer has been approached to help with a very special project in the American Southwest serving Afghan refugees recently relocated to the US from Afghanistan. We have the chance to serve more than 1,000 kids who are living in a camp-like environment far, far from a home they may never see again.
THIS situation is exactly why Refugee Soccer was formed, and we couldn’t be happier to jump in and help immediately. Soccer is not just a unifying sport, it is also a key way to engage these youth as they await placement into more permanent housing around the US.
Due to the ongoing security situation involving this operation, we are bound by confidentiality agreements and security protocols. But here is what we can say.
- Starting in October 2021, Refugee Soccer will be organizing groups of coaches/players to enter the camp (located on an undisclosed US military base) in the Southwest weekly to conduct training clinics with Afghan youth ages 6-14.
- We are organizing the collection and delivery of gear for these 1,000 kids to enable them to practice safely with our coaches and on their own in between our visits.
How Can You Help?
We are looking for 5-10 coaches and/or players willing to come to the camp weekly to run training for the kids there. You will be responsible for your own expenses to get to the location near El Paso, Texas, and any lodging expenses during your stay there. You will also have to pass a security check for clearance to enter the base. If you are interested please click the link below to fill out the initial application.
We are collecting gear, especially footwear (shoes, socks, and shinguards, in that order), for over 1,000 kids who left their homeland with virtually nothing. We are looking for significant donations of gear and cash to buy gear (all tax-deductible). If you or your organization are interested please click the link below to indicate your interest.
We need your help to help our allies and new neighbors, and, candidly, you, too, will benefit from your involvement and support. This is precisely where private organizations and citizens rally to right wrongs, to support those suffering, and to change the course of history even in just small ways for individuals in need.
